Guest Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Hi, Ive been reading about and i know ill get a nOOb ripping for this, but... Lets say ive downloaded the MTA VC server and client and i want to use it at the weekend for some 1 v 1 lan. Can i start a server now and join it on my own, just so i know it will work? And if so how do i find the server with the client? It would be a nice feature to bring these two together as one program.
orappa Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 To join your own server, fire up the MTA client and put your IP as "localhost" (without " marks obviously). To find the server with the client, you will need All Seeing Eye (http://www.udpsoft.com). I have had some reports of not being able to find the server whilst on the server itself, but other people should be able to. I doubt they would ever be joined together because the extra code required would increase the memory usage of both significantly. MTA:SA FAQ - Read this before asking questions. Guest Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Thanks very much. It worked. Funny tho, I couldn't find that local host thing anywere, On the forum's or manual. Well now it is in the forums.
dystopia Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Well, with the server they assume you are going to have minimal knowlegde of servers/networking. localhost is a very common term for php, mysql, mail servers, game servers and the like. It makes you want to drink the sun
Slothman Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 it's true. "theres no place like 127.0.0.1" Check out my recent work: ZDay - a zombie script Slothbot - an AI deathmatch bot my community profile (all my resources)

OpiuM. Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 yes really, john, why not tell him, connect to 127.0.0.1? it seems easier than To join your own server, fire up the MTA client and put your IP as "localhost" (without " marks obviously). To find the server with the client, you will need All Seeing Eye (http://www.udpsoft.com). dystopia Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 Most likely you can, unless the server sets up a different home address It makes you want to drink the sun

I remember hearing somewhere that some machines have different home addresses (hardly any, but a few). Also localhost is easier to remember than a string of numbers. Slothman Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 yeah, localhost is just easy toi remember. in conclusion: to connect to yourself, put in: -"localhost" -"127.0.0.1" -whatever your NETWORK ip is (not to be confused with your internet ip address) Check out my recent work: ZDay - a zombie script Slothbot - an AI deathmatch bot my community profile (all my resources)
dystopia Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 lmfao putting your wan ip in there will cause much confusion and fear...especially with webservers haha "OMG my url is now linked to my router settings, AAAHHHH" lmao It makes you want to drink the sun
