[nWg]ScarFace3 Posted February 22, 2004 Author Posted February 22, 2004 well yea steam is pretty bad..but i need to kno wut kinda specs the system i build should be running for a 12ppl pirvate server Proud Owner and Founder of GTA-Projects.tk http://www.GTA-Projects.tk NON-STEAM http://ssux.uni.cc/
dystopia Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 i think it's mostly to do with u/d bandwidth, my friend runs a cs box sometimes on a 750mhz 512 ram, runs decent, but we are all within 5 miles, so that could be a factor too It makes you want to drink the sun
Dgtadude Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 I dont know mucha bout building server . but i have noticed that payid webserver and game server . they usually have ALOT of ram . so you might want to see if there's enough Steam ID: Linkage CSS/HL2DM XBL TAG: Linkage155 (please identify yourself) -=- Member of the GTA Hoodz Team -=- Member of TmM -=- Member of the U.C.F Team -=- (last updated like 2 years ago, links don''t work anymore, but I''ll keep it original)
[nWg]ScarFace3 Posted February 22, 2004 Author Posted February 22, 2004 yea, but i need more detail specs ... Proud Owner and Founder of GTA-Projects.tk http://www.GTA-Projects.tk NON-STEAM http://ssux.uni.cc/
orappa Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 CS uses a dated engine so it doesn't require much work to get decent performance, plus it'll be dedicated. i think it's mostly to do with u/d bandwidth, my friend runs a cs box sometimes on a 750mhz 512 ram, runs decent, but we are all within 5 miles, so that could be a factor too CPUs are fairly cheap these days, so you could get a 2GHz and plug it full of RAM, and that should be super-fast. [nWg]ScarFace3 Posted February 22, 2004 Author Posted February 22, 2004 I Wuz Thinkin Maybe a PIII 1.0ghz With 512 ddr Ram And A 40 Gig With Nuttin But XP and Steam.....Will That Work ??? Proud Owner and Founder of GTA-Projects.tk http://www.GTA-Projects.tk NON-STEAM http://ssux.uni.cc/
orappa Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 Yep, should be Ok. I found that DDR massively improved performance on my system. The HDD doesn't really need to be that big if it only has CS and Steam on it, so you could save a bit of cash there. RAM-wise it looks ok, and the CPU will probably be fine because HL needs a minimum of a 266, lol. Are you planning to have bots playing as well? This will affect server performance. dystopia Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 should work damn well locally, just depends on connection speeds past that It makes you want to drink the sun
orappa Posted February 22, 2004 Posted February 22, 2004 Yep, connection is the No.1 thing affecting performance. No.2 is the specs of the server. MTA:SA FAQ - Read this before asking questions. MTA:SA Troubleshooting - Read this first if you have problems.
[nWg]ScarFace3 Posted February 22, 2004 Author Posted February 22, 2004 well its only gunna be mostly people in upper US and lower CAN so i should work rite?? Proud Owner and Founder of GTA-Projects.tk http://www.GTA-Projects.tk NON-STEAM http://ssux.uni.cc/
orappa Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Yep, can't see any problems there. MTA:SA FAQ - Read this before asking questions. MTA:SA Troubleshooting - Read this first if you have problems.
[nWg]ScarFace3 Posted February 24, 2004 Author Posted February 24, 2004 now does ne one kno prices for that machine or wut it should cost to build in can dollars.....i can get A prebuilt p3 with 128 ram and onboard everything with a 18 gig hdd for like 279 and then addd on ne one kno cheaper prices?? Proud Owner and Founder of GTA-Projects.tk http://www.GTA-Projects.tk NON-STEAM http://ssux.uni.cc/
dystopia Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 ya know, techtv did a deal earlier this month with a p4 dell server tower for like 350USD But i don't know if it's still going on. I'll try to find the site http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... E400SCSAPP poop, guess we missed it, still not a terrible price tho i guess, but overall it'd be cheaper i think to just go with that refurb 1ghz It makes you want to drink the sun
orappa Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I don't think you can get 1GHz P3's any more, so I think you'll have to look on eBay. Should be able to get them quite cheaply. Or you could get the cheapest new processor - the cheapest one I can find (in the UK) is a 1.7Ghz P4 which is priced at £30, which is approximately $50.
