Dank
Ok if wild cards are not allowed for banning ip ranges. If someone connected to your server using a dynamic ip (ex. 123.456.789.0) and you wanted to ban them. Could you add a list of ip's to ban the range. 123.456.789.1 123.456.789.2, etc, etc Link to comment
[PiG] Ponch
Just keep banning them with the admin tool. After a while they'll get bored with having to reconnect. Just don't be nasty when you ban them or they will keep coming back to your server. Just to piss you off. Just give them a couple of warnings to sort out their shit and if they don't...ban them Personally I wouldn't bother banning a whole IP range. It'll make your fingers bleed typing in all those IP addresses... just as easy to ban them as they come to your server...it's only a mouse click Link to comment
Robpol86
u can just make a php script, but 253 is too big, and thats just 1 octet. lets just wait for wildcard support Link to comment
Dank
Anyone know of a program that would generate a list that would cover the range. And you mean, if they will support ip range banning. Which I hope they do, also hopefully there will be the ability to set a max ping for the server. Damn those 500ping peps. Link to comment
Robpol86
no, that would be pointless for example, if a lamer w/ an ip address of 192.168.12.63 entered your game, and you want to ban his isp, u cant just ban the range of 192.168.12.1 - 192.168.12.254. that would do anything. ISPs dont registere one network. when he changes his ip, it can change from 192.168.12.63 into 192.168.52.41. And this is just the "tip of the iceberg". we just need to wait for hostname and wildcard support on banlists. Link to comment
Dank
So you would have to ban from 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.256.256? But ranges aren't possible yet to my understanding. So if there was a script that could take the first 2 sets of numbers and generate a list of that range. Problem would be solved? Link to comment
Robpol86
ok... look if they had an ip of somewhere between: 192.?.?.? and 223.?.?.? then you would have to ban MORE than 253 ips 128.?.?.? and 191.?.?.? """"" MORE than 64009 ips 1.?.?.? and 127.?.?.? """""" MORE than 16194277 ips. note MORE. since isps get more than 1 network. so... if u like having 25 GB banlists, then go for it! i would rather keep banning them until they get bored of chaning their ip (if u want to ban ranges that badly, u have to list each indivitual ip address in the banlist, u cant put in a range) Link to comment
Shadowninja
im not a cheater, i also hate that, but some people have dynamic ips or hidden ips, how can u ban, someone with these things? Link to comment
Robpol86
do it the good old way, manually. tail ur logfile to compare ip addresses and ban the lamer when he joins Link to comment
[PiG] Ponch
i would rather keep banning them until they get bored of chaning their ip That's what I thought... Who's gonna bother changing thier IP address 20 times in a row just to be a prick on one server? Link to comment
