Kevin_Linden Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I have the idea of in game ShoutCast. For Cars or even just walking around like on a portable radio. The server owner could add ShoutCast stations Urls and names in a easy to use config file. Could this be done? I would love to see something like this. If you do use my idea all i ask is you make it for everyone to download or give me a free copy.
robhol Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 No, this can not currently be done unless you want to add an mp3 file to the resource and change it manually.
Kevin_Linden Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Okay... Can MTA play mp3's off of a url??? If it could someone could rig up a server/client radio script. It might not be ShoutCast but it would be something... I'm trying to come up with ideas so people wont have to store music on there Hard drive.

MTA only plays MP3s that are sent to the client included in a resource.
50p Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Okay. Thats lame. That's not lame. Go play SA-MP and play no sounds at all... that's called lame.
Kevin_Linden Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Okay... I don't play SA-MP much so i didn't know. So than thats not lame! But It could be a idea to add Url streaming in 2.0 or something.

Kevin_Linden Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Okay.... But still if it did i think that would be cool. Live Radio in game sounds so cool.
Dark Dragon Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 having mta make your homework would be cool as well. the only thing that IMO could maybe get added would be the possibility to pop up a url open request on clients screen, so he gets a window with the url which he would be linked to and some warning like "websides can contain dangerous stuff, only press "yes" when you trust that website and the server owner, pressing no is recommended, use yes on your own risk...bla bla" then if he presses yes his browser opens... you know the rest.
robhol Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 IMO not a very good idea, both due to security and the fact that there are so ridiculously many things that would be more useful, or needs a higher priority than this. (The roadmap comes to mind straight away.) You don't NEED live audio streaming to clients implemented in MTA, use a separate program or something. I think you could be able to control it somehow, if the program ran alongside MTA, and had a connection to a module or something on the server on another port. This is just a very vague idea though, and IMHO this is just too useless to waste any time on, at least when we're talking about time that could be better spent solving one of the 470 issues currently on the roadmap. (This whole thing reminds me about the voicechat/TeamSpeak topic, heh..)
darkdreamingdan Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 It probably wouldnt be hard to even implement. The problem lies in priorities and demand - its probably pretty straightforward to grab an external library and use it for MTA.
Kevin_Linden Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 That sounds cool. I wonder if part of VLC media player (and its open source) could help us.
madis Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I've always wanted to have the possibility to choose a real radio station as a radio station in GTA. It was actually possible in single player with some application that streamed and saved the stream in two small mp3 files, so that both are in music tracks folder, and after first .mp3 is played the second one will be played, meanwhile, the first one will be recorded over with continuation from the second one etc. Anyway, that method would not suite to multiplayer of course. First search for a good free audio library with lot of features was OpenAL (the link shows how many games use it.) However, there are probably some bugs and other more important stuff to be fixed first in MTA.
darkdreamingdan Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 If anyone is interested to create a patch for this it probably would be implemented, but otherwise our priorities lie elsewhere.
