{Static}
Had this idea whilst posting in another topic, and didn't find much when searching. Basically, I know this will require the SDK because it's not something the team are going to integrate, but its sort of RPG/Racing career like Gran Turismo. You start off with say $500 to buy your first car. You get a slow and steady car like a Glendale. You take part in a few low-class races with other slow cars and win them. Each race you are rewarded some cash. Then you have enough to buy a new car, for example a Comet. You take part in races with other cars of similar speeds, and win more money etc (perhaps also charged an entry fee for each race). This goes on until you have one of the fastest cars (like a Banshee or Bullet), where there are championships and compositions, where you win loads of cash and cars etc. Eventually, you become the server champion, and others try to challenge you in competitions. Basically, it follows a Gran Turismo stroke RPG theme (without things like licenses) instead of just straight races over and over again. Like I said, it would need a lot of coding with the SDK once it's released, and I would be happy to attempt to contribute to it if somebody decided to take it up. It just makes the prospect of plain races with hardly any user-customizibility seem a bit more interesting. Link to comment
Jigga
Actually i don't see the point coz in the end u are still 'just' racing, eh? Link to comment
m21
i see a very big point but i think about something more intresting... when u get into a server u have a table with races in different areas and with different nomber of racers (max 6) and you see how many accepted. like if i choose a race with 3 ppl and there are 2 ppl accepted i can get in it and start the race. other even more complicated option is to make that every player will show how much money he will give to race... like if i have a Glendale and i am saying that i want to put 10$ to the race so someone with a comet may join the race only if he puts muth more money like 100 to race with me becouse i have almost no chance. other option is that everyone will bet on their cars. so the one who wins gets the cars of all other racers Link to comment
erorr404
This gives me an awesome idea for an ongoing server script. Everyone starts out with a small amount of cash and access to some crappy car and cheap weapons. They earn money by killing people or winning races and can then afford to buy better and better weapons and vehicles. All players must create accounts so the server can keep track of them and load their stats (money, vehicles and weapons owned, etc) every time they log on. The problem with this is that it will be very intimidating for new players to make their way up the ladder when everyone has an advantage over them.. but something like that would be cool. It would probably work better if it was race-related only, but that problem would still remain. Link to comment
Si|ent
Perhaps code in some newb protection. i.e. safe areas where they cannot be killed but can begin to earn, or even immunity to death until they reach a certain 'level' financially. A lot of mmolrpgs use these techniques to prevent unbalance. Link to comment
girder
my own mmporg i gonna use that system and it already does Link to comment

ipconfig
I actually had a similar idea the other day, except it has more to it: I was thinking about a need for speed: underground type thing, where you start out with so much money, then you get to buy your car, you can earn additional money from street races, and you can use the money to fix your car (if your car got damaged in a race, you would have to pay to repair it, and if you totaled it, you would get 50% of what the car was worth back (kinda like an insurance policy, you could even make it optional and make insurance users pay a certain amount of money for it before the race). If you total your car, you would get all of your parts auto matically put into your next car you buy (no matter rather you had insurance or not, you would always get your engine upgrades back). Along with insurance and repairs, you could also use money for upgrades and stuff out of the mod shop, like you could have engine upgrades, which would make your car faster by modifing your handling.conf file, and you could do stuff that would reduce the weight of your car (which really modifies the handling.conf file). basically the performance upgrades to your car (such as better tires, or new engine) would modify your handling.conf file. for the rest of the upgrades, you could use the game,s built in mod shop, such as transfender or wheel arc angles. you could also implement that neon light mod i heard about the other day. (and yes, it would allow you to race in different tiers depending on how powerful your car is. hell, you could have the option of racing for money, or pink slips (other person's car). I do realize that the first versions of blue will not support modifying the handling.conf file, and i do realize that it will be difficult to allow modifying it while not allowing people to modify it themselves at the same time. which is why i suggest it as a good idea I think a street racing modification would be fun and would be better than need for speed because it could support more people and would cound make your own tracks. Oh, and you could also sell your car to other players, hell, you could have an auctioning system so players could place their bids on someone's car. Link to comment
