i'm sure if they made gta rpg mode, as in Mode not as in replace exsisting gta mta idea, then i people would still play it as it would be a mode not a replacement, i think its a good idea myself, gives you the option, like in gta, i find it boring just getting a wanted lvl of 6 stars, i prefer the missions n stuff, when i completed gta3 i still played trying to find all the secrets n stuff, always got bored when i just went around killing stuff

i'm glad that everyone posts useful replies on these things (and yes thats a highly sarcastic comment) but to me vice city is just gta 3 with a few extra features, if vice city was out first everyone would be saying vice city sucks because gta liberty city would have these new features like chainsaws and helicopters

all standard dial up connections in the uk have dynamic ip's (where its different everytime) you have to pay extra for a static one here, i don't even think all broadband connections have static ip's here. i would suggest banning the network address + the computer name, so even if it changes everytime it'll still be banned, i'm not sure how you find out the network address from hte computer address, (if you don't know heres an example, network address is the first part, ie with my isp its always like 62.255 thats the network address then the client address is always the (62.255).1.2 if you get what i mean, i doubt many people would have the same computer name, and then using that it limits them to that isp (soz if i appear to be talking stupid and no one cares ) also this way in order to change your computer name you ahve to restart everytime, and i don't think many people will want to restart there computer every 5 minutes to get past this....althoguh thinking about it, banning hte MAC address would be a lot simplier, however i think thats pretty hard to find, i know blackICE finds it so its not impossible

LAN Gaming: Do I really need to buy two copies of GTA?
SteadVéx replied to a topic in General MTA discussion
for gta3 u can simply copy the cd using nero or something, and it will work with the 1.1 patch, if you don't use the 1.1 patch tho it says the cd's not in the drive, don't understand this myself, its like the offical patch makes the cd protection useless, although it still asks for the cd without it, (i an't got a lan but i been playing MTA over a serial cable at a speedy 112.5k connection wow) but with vice city, it wouldn't copy, well it would but it wouldn't accept the cd, i found a way to let you play it on 2 computers without using a cd crack (i didn't bother as i thought mta wouldn't work with it) if you have any virtual cd software that mite work, but i used a i think new cd writing program to do it, as i don't think we're supposed to talk about this thing pm and i'll tell you what i did (and i never managed to copy gta2, i always had to swap cd's .. actually still play it now and then -
i don't know much about modding gta 3/vc, but i'd be happy to make an installer for it, or a launcher, i know how annoying it is when you install something and when you want to play normal gta3/vc u have to go about putting all the files back getting peaved off and reinstalling it. i made a few maps/cities on gta1, and some simple missions, but thats the extent of it, the gta2 map editor confused me...(but i think this was due to how on my computer it seemed to crash everytime i do something...was it designed to be run in NT?)
-
yup, you were right, but i was super miffed when it kept doing that after i formated and reinstalled virtually everything...so i did it again and then i decided to go and look for new types of virus's i only heard about that blasta thing yesterday..

Looking for MTA Games? + Anyone with Always On Connection?
SteadVéx replied to SteadVéx's topic in General MTA discussion
as i'm on dial up i can't keep connected 24/7 but 2 hours from when i post this message i'll have the server open on my computer, so if wants to play mta, please could you try this out, it'll still list the games on ase, so it won't make less people join a game 62.255.8.158 (the client and server both use port 1001) Thanks specially to anyone who tries it -
Looking for MTA Games? + Anyone with Always On Connection?
SteadVéx replied to SteadVéx's topic in General MTA discussion
i wrote this because i personally don't use ase, and its a shareware thing and i don't think its worth buying for just until MTA comes out, and i know i know, i can just get a keygen or a crack but we're not supposed to be talking about illigal activies on here right? so i made this with a few ideas in mind 1.Simple 2.Free 3.Configure server easily (only basic options included, if someone really wants it i'll add the abillity to edit all the options, at least the ones known to us, and a ban list editor could be included too) 4.(was supposed to launch gta automatically but i forgot to do that, its actually only one line but i gone and put it on the web now, i'll add it if anyone wants that) I only used ASE a few times and didn't get on with it, and i don't recall being able to configure and launch the server from ASE? although i didn't really check that much to be honest, i also made it for me to b able to learn, i expect one of the things the mta team like about making mta is the fact they are learning how to do new things (at least i'd assume so) -
i think i just have a wierd comp, cuz i kept getting attacked by it everytime i went on the internet until i dl'd that patch (and i have antivirus and firewall) but with me, just lots of things didn't work, like i couldn't copy n paste inside explorer and internet explorer, or open a new window i'd had to load another copy of it, and visual studio refused to open, installs wouldn't install, and generally made me very annoyed but it never restarted for me, however i was restarting it every few minutes

in order to get the compatiabilty tab thingy in 2k type in this command in the run dialog on the start menu "regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll" you should then see a message saying "DllRegisterServer in C:\\apppatch\slayerui.dll succeeded" click Ok, then check the properties ofa short cut and the compatibility tab should now be displayed

Hi, i've made a program to help people join MTA games easier, i belive until the final version is realised, this will help people join MTA games without putting pressure on the developers to get the game browser working, i think of this as a short term idea until MTA is finished if someone could people download the server who has a always on, or at least virtually always on connection which has the same ip, then reply with your ip on here, then if anyone wants to use this, just download the client, enter the ip in the options and it should work, although please note the nickname does not work for gta 3 you have to enter it everytime you start the mta client, although it will automatically put in the nickname for VC MTA, below are some screen shots, i tried to make it as simple as possible, but this if anyone downloads the server for me, i haven't been able to test it properly, and if the client crashes i think the game will still show on the server, all you have to do is restart the server, but that will clear all the games currently listed on there. (also noticeo n the screen shots the option to list on ASE, this means these games can still be listed with ASE via the server, but this doesn't mean games on ASE will be listed in the client) Download Client - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/l.stead/_darren/GTA%203%20MTA%20Client.zip Downoad Server - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/l.stead/_darren/GTA%203%20MTA%20Server.zip

thanks wasn't sure if that would get taken the right way, it is well sorta half complete i guess, theres probably bugs in it, i'm sure theres better ways to do it, but if anyone is interested in hosting the server for a few days to see if it works fine i'd be most grateful, if someone does, then i'll put a link to download the client thing, its got the limit of the integer for the amount of games it can list, and with how many can connect, but i doubt they'll be 32,000 + people playing at any one time, at least not for a while but that can be changed well, the only things i can think of, is if i was to add an option to start either vc or gta3, get the program to figure out when the mtaserver is closed so it removes it off the servers list, at the moment when you close the client it removes it from the server, oh, also the client loads and saves the server settings on load and when you launch the server, (and incase someone who's anti vb all the way, its in vb, hence how i made it so quickly, and i know the gui needs to be worked on, again it was quick, but thats easy enough) (it was more of a learning thing for me, as i've never done anything with tcp before, tried to do it with udp, but from what i can tell, you can't have more than one incoming connection, at least not in a simple way) again if anyones interested my msn is [email protected] (its doubles as my email too)
-
and in case anyone is interested, i got bored and made this, the idea is that one computer runs the server, and then people connect using the client (strangly enough) the server holds a list of gta 3 mta games (its very simple to chang to vice city if anyone is interested, i thought kinda a front end, put it together quickly, but if someone had a 24/7 connection and wanted to see if this would catch on i'd be happy to send it to them) i made it because i felt i wanted something super simple to use, bot the mta client and server are launched from the client. i'm not sure if it would be useful for people who play lan games or not...i could set it so it searches the local subnet so with lan's it would automatically find the server and show the games avaliable. crazy idea? (after being told the command lines for mta, which is nice to have a shortcut from straight to the offical server i thought i could take it one step further) i hope this isn't taken as offensive to mta some how, its just my way of trying to support?
-
thanks i figured out the connect one, but i just assumed there wasn't one for nick and password
-
nevermind, figured it out now.
-
hi, i was wondering if anyone could tell me how ase passes the ip to mta? i'd like to be able to create a shortcut that launches the launcher and automatically connets, from ase i figured it was the "mta.exe connect" but that just seems to connect using the last ip used? if anyone would help me i'd most appricate it
-
i think your right, just have to add now i've been getting these really wierd errors, i installed vice city today, borrowed it, surprisngly it runs smoother than gta3 even tho it says it requires a directx 9 video card? and the wierd thing java buttons don't seem to work well at least the buttons on this site, and get a wierd error when trying to open vb i started on that program i was on about, if it gets done i'll try and show you what i mean, i have mirc somewhere, just never install it does mta have a room somewhere? if so what server, can't be bothered to look thru all the posts now, and since none of these magical search buttosn aren't working that puts me off more...
-
heres a crazy idea, the current methods of finding games seem annoying, if someone has broadband or 24/7 internet access, when people play games if they could just run a program to send there ip to this nice person who's willing to host another program which just keeps a list of servers for people, does this seem silly? i would but as i've stated i'm on dial up and my ip changes everytime, you could also have a number of people who run it, and it checks one ip if there offline then the next, it could be an easier way to have to download an irc client or ase? i'm happy to try this, although it would be in vb, and i know a lot of people seem to hate vb for some reason....you could have this program start the server for you, waits a few seconds for the server to initialise or whatever it does then send the ip, and when the server gets closed the program removes the ip of the list (does this seem complicated to anyone?)
-
another question, if anyone reads this (i'm sure this should be in a new thread or something but nevermind) and uses dial up, have you noticed that some isp's don't like to work with others, i used to play age of empires 2 with people i know, and it usually worked fine, although often laggy with freeserve (i'm in the uk) and always had ping timeouts with people on aol, however people who play people who both have aol seem to have no problem, etc, even BT was smooth compared to freeserve.
-
i would be interested, but i can't get broadband until winter here, and i'm sure many people will insist any problems i get is because i have a useless internet connection, but i got someone to test mta just 2 players over the internet both of us used dial up and it seemed to be fine. personally i think we need to wait until (if ever) 0.35 is out, (btw, i have noticed my isp seems to have good dial up speeds, i know 5k/s dl is bad for broadband, but most isp's here seem to have average dl's of 3.3/3.8k/s whilst with mine usually around 5, just curious if anyone tried this on dial up what speeds they usually get and if its laggy for them or not?)

I also use 2000, in my opinion its the fastest version of windows, at least it is on my computer, windows me was very fast but would become unstable very quickly, 98se was my os of choice before getting 2000, i think xp is just a bloated 2000, as it is NT 5.1 2000 being NT5 i don't understand why ms can't realise a patch for 2000 allowing the all new themes and ... i'm sure theres something else new oh yea, to the vote thing, most people i know use win98, then most of the people i know who have new computers use xp because it comes with the computer, not because they want to, and they don't know how to put 98 on from there old computer. (no one i know uses lindows tho , and with mta not workign in 98, i used to have trouble running gta3 in win98 would randomly crash, even with the 1.1 patch, also if u install win98 using 98lite the sound is distorted)
-
yea, i was wondering the same, as i couldn't help but notice that mta:vc 0.2 screen shots are posted, and progress got higher on the counter, and gta 3 0.35 seems to have come to a halt completly, from the site i figure they both use the same netcode, so i'm guessing there just figuring out all the animations for vc then do the animations for gta3, then they'll add new features, although i'm guessing i'm wrong with that to...and the new version of ggm seemed very impressive to me i know traffic and that not sync'd, but its fun getting the army onto u, steeling a tank and running over other peoples cars *may have anger managment issues:p*
-
i managed to join one game that worked fine on ase (the other times itried all the players were either frozen, or just caught in that lag loop thing whatever its called), although personally i don't like the idea of having to pay for a product to find servers for a free mod, i'd like to see a server list like in gtat, but it feels like everyones abandoned gta3 for vice city for mp. don't get me wrong, i think mta is great! i'm impressed with whats been done so far, i don't have vice city as gta3 only just runs and i doubt vice city would run on my computer can't afford a graphics card just for one game , although its very tempting as the screenshots look great of the upcoming one, (any screen shots of gta3 mta coming?) i'm sure my comment had nothing to do with anything, just felt like posting it after reading yours

i dunno if this will be frowned upon, but for gta3 i used nero + that image drive program which is so handy that comes with it (although i've noticed it only seems to appear on some nero cd's?) i made an image of the play cd and used it for gta3, makes it smoother running to, at least i got the feeling it was, instead of patching the exe you just have a virtual cd drive, theres tons of programs out there, most motherboards seem to come with a virtual drive program too, (sorry if this upsets anyone, but i don't belive this to be wrong, i have most of my games on an image, but thats mainly due to my incredibly dodgy can't be bothered to replace cd drive)
