You may revert to the previous driver if you wish (through Device Manager), that's fine. I don't think performance should increase significantly with a newer audio driver - though I'm curious as to why sound is any different. Perhaps some enhancement is enabled/disabled where it shouldn't be in your playback device's properties. 13.11 is fine, hopefully AMD will release a WHQL driver of 13.11 soon.

Your laptop really doesn't like the Atheros WHQL drivers, it seems. If there's no newer version offered in Windows Update, then stick with the version you've got installed now. The audio and Ethernet drivers updated successfully. Did the Catalyst mobility verification tool say there was no newer driver version available? I assume you have Catalyst 13.9 installed, correct? (it's hard for me to tell via dxdiag)

This storage driver should install.

Just run setup.exe.

The audio driver didn't update, try installing it again please. Run Windows Update and install any critical updates, then try installing the storage driver again. If you get the same error message, install Windows Installer 4.5 and try again.

The audio driver I provided should be compatible with all versions of Windows. Do you get an error message stating that it is incompatible with Windows 7 when you try to install it?

Can you provide a screenshot of Windows Update after it has finished scanning for updates? You may need to click the "Custom" button instead of "Express" when you initially open the page.
