version question

hey, i jsut downloaded mta.

I did everything right. But, when i try to load a server, it says it cannot detect my version, reverting to 1.0

So i said whatever, and treid to start the game. *1.o not supported* so i download the 1.1 patch, install it, etc. I try again. *cannot detect version, reverting to 1.0*

start game *1.0 not supported*

what should i do?

The client is supposed to auto set version, if your using VC then you can use version 1.0 & 1.1, if its GTA III then only 1.1 works.

Even though its supposed to find your version it almost always defaults to 1.0, so you should just select the version your using in the client window

It isnt supposed to find it automatically, that message was included so people would be aware that it is set to 1.0 by default to prompt them to alter it if neeb be.

but the message says "could not find version" or something like that, I've always thought it was supposed to be automatic, would be very handy though cause there is a lot of people that can't figure out changing the version in the client window.

Couldn't you get it to read the exe file size and determine what version it was?

As said before we don't promote the use of cracked vc and gta3 exes, but we also don't go out of our way to prevent it.

but it could still default to 1.0 when it was a cracked exe, and when detecting a original exe it would set it to the right version. Still this isn't a big problem as people soon find out what is wrong, but you see the question asked often on the forums.

Kent said that Blue does this automatically. He said that obviously they never bothered to check whether it works for cracked versions though.
