Thats not minimalistic. Use full white ground (or #EEEEEE), thin quad frames, the angle between the lines cross is 90 degrees, and circle is not oval, it will be good.

wait what? I didnt make a circle or an oval.... and no.. the angle between each angle is already 90, and this has white + blue because only white and little blue = bad.. I guess...

Here is circle, what is not like an "0" or "O" (havent oval form). And cross, what is not like an "X", his lines intersect at an angle of 90 degrees.

It's a simple design, but gets the job done. I prefer darker themes than white ones like Trani suggested, it's more easy-going on your eyes

Maybe try to make some design via Photoshop or whatnot? Always good to practice a little photoshop

As for OP, I believe it looks alright. You may, however, want to use a different font on the actual naughts and crosses.
