converting string to table

i have a table in string like

string = "{123, 456}" 

and I would like to transfer it to table like

table = {123, 456} 

how could I do that?

I think that maybe won't work because he used a string and not a raw table.

It won't work with the string he uses -> "{123, 321}"

I'm assuming Wei manually formatted that string, which is why I mentioned toJSON; getting the data back in a Lua table is then as easy as calling fromJSON.
