What's the best movie software?

Most of the good software suites can be rather expensive, and they are a bit of a leap up from free editors in terms of complexity. If you attend a recognised university or something you may be able to get a discounted Academic Version of one such package, although I think in some cases even attending a High School is sufficient. But if you're new to video editing and not in the market for a $300+ piece of software, I'd suggest sticking to the free ones for now, such as Wax 2.0 (or indeed remaining with Windows Movie Maker).

Sony Vegas Pro well and truly falls into the category of expensive. Jaysds1 hasn't yet indicated whether he's in the market for such an expensive program, I didn't want to encourage any thoughts of piracy by suggesting software that he may not be able to afford. So er, good one...

Oz, Pro version can be downloaded for free.

...which is illegal, and probably best not discussed here. Presumably CapY you were referring to the same thing (online theft) which I guess doesn't surprise me.

I gave you two free and legal alternatives, that's definitely the best way to go if you have no intention of actually buying any software.

As one guy has already said, whilst the free versions can have their benefits, it mostly comes down to the complexity. I mean how much are you looking to put into the video in terms of creativity?

I always use to have Fraps installed. It’s simple and does the job. It’s been a while since I’ve had it installed so I wouldn’t know if much has changed. The last software I used was made from Corel - Video Editing x4 I think was the name. I did manage to find a free version which was installed for 30 days and to my surprise after the trial - it still continued.
