new player need help

ok i just started playing today and i learned a few things but one thing i wanna know is how do i talk in the game i know it sounds stupid but i dont know how please help me

Press T to open the chatbox. Y for team chat, but this isn't always available.

to close it, type nothing and click enter

Or ESC to close. Console is also opened with F8. These are both somewhat more logical and useful, because they are each ONE key, whereas ` isn't necessarily available at one keystroke in all keyboard layouts, and ENTER to close requires you to empty it first.
