ram really makes alot of difference when recording (with fraps), i first had 256mb and i could barely record any game on lowest settings on a reasonable framerate but now i got 1gb and it works very well

it also depends on if the game youre recording uses alot of resources, im sure itd be hard for my comp to get good fps while recording hl2 whereas vc would easily run on 60 fps while recording

Surprisingly, I get the exact opposite results. I have no problem recording CSS at 30+ fps while VC often drops below 20 fps (when there's a few people fighting).

actually, because it is writing the movie file on the fly, it has a lot to do wit h cpu and hard drive speed. of course gpu and ather stuff effect it too. i noticed a significant difference when i started putting my movie files onto a 200 gig SATA hard disk rather than my crusty old 6 gig spare ide hard drive

Nevermind, it's because I had 8xAA and 16xAF assigned to gta-vc.exe profile in the driver control panel. :P
