traditional gta1/2 style game mode

I'm not sure if this idea has been suggested before but here it is:

Basically my idea is to implement a deathmatch mode that is more or less like gta2, in that you choose a location upon creating the game eg. downtown, then start the game (in SA for example it'd be either san fiero, los santos, or las venturas).

When you start you simply spawn in with no weapons at all, and have to find them at various places around the map. This way the game is made more interesting because it creates a fear of coming across a loaded gangsta while you have nothing to defend yourself with and have to get away in your car or whatever.

I dunno if it's just me but there's something about: [choose a class >> spawn with weapons >> find a car >> find someone to kill by driving for a minute or two >> fight until you die >> respawn and repeat] that gets boring pretty quick, and takes away from the original gta experience.

for this game mode to work properly, a few things would have to be changed/added:

- Shotgun needs to be shorter ranged, and less powerful: If it hits you once you can't get off the ground, which I think is lame. This is something I would also suggest for normal VC.

- Cars need to do more damage or even kill when they hit at a high speed, unless the player jumps on their roof.

- I know this topic has been done to death, however I think pedestrians add a lot to the first two GTA games. Ped cars could be used to box other players in, as well as cover you from their bullets/rockets.

If the ped population was kept low (or could be set), would it add all that much to the amount of bandwidth? If this game mode was like GTA2, the player slots would be low anyway.

All that said I also have some thoughts on standard MTA. Everything in the game has been preserved to be like singleplayer, which is a good thing, but generally the MP side of a game gets majorly adjusted by the developers for balancing reasons.

Apart from the issue with the shotgun I talked about before, what can anyone do against a hunter? obviously it'd be unbalanced if everyone started with gattling guns or rocket launchers, so the best thing to do i think would be to make them as hard to acquire as a hunter is.

What are your thoughts?

btw sorry for the long-windedness of this post.

looks like u put some thought into this

i say if ur gonna reduce the power of the shotgun u shouldnt reduce its range

and i agree that getting hit while ur down sux

[and is sorta n00bish, but u cant tell if they got back up until they start moving around]

so i say u shouldnt recieve damage untill ur ready to move [got back up]

Wow. The shotgun damage is already low, since the MTA team lowered it, and they want more... :| You could time when to shoot the player, so that would kill instantly. Also, the MTA team has removed jumping from MTA 0.5, which really broght Stubby pwners skills down. (Quite sad actually) Unless you are talking about the chrome shotgun. And for car-killing, that needs to be at the opinion of the admin on the server, if the admin think car-killing is cool, he could raise the damage meter to 50 or 100, and if he thinks its bad, set the damage to 0 rofl. Kinda like VC-MP friendly fire.

hmm

yeh i suppose the damage of the shotty isn't the problem, but rather that it knocks you down after 1 hit, after which you're pretty much dead if they keep shooting you.

Like it doesnt matter how powerful your weapon is (say m16), if they hit you once and you fall over, you're gone - I find that even if you shoot directly at them, they still have more than enough time/health to get a shot off. Maybe if they somehow coded in a chance factor of whether it actually knocks you down, the chance getting higher the closer you are to whoever is shooting at you...

Personally I think it'd be better to get rid of the knockdown altogether seeing as the shotgun is already pretty powerful. Especially if they implement the standard deathmatch mode I suggested since no one would start with any weapons to begin with.
