  1. Well you wouln't really have to do it that way.. in GTA when you throw a molotov / nade it automatically keeps track of how far it will go, and gives the projectile the correct velocity components and angles... A better way would be to wait for blue, and just sync the acutal nade / molotov particles themselves OR just send the component / angle data that GTA calculates to the cleints. There woudlnt really be any reason to add another time to keep track of toss distance.

  2. I have an Idea that would probably be pretty easy to implement in all GTA's.

It's simple: when GTA starts up, it randomizes the position in each radio file, so you don't always hear the radio's from the begining each time.. All mta has to do, is reset the file positions when you connect in the mta client.. the server can keep track of each radio, and only one packet has to be sent to NEW clients only.. which means there will be virtually no bandwith lost. So when lazlow cracks a joke, everyone can give their two-cents. A simple idea, that would make it pretty cool.

Also, when you ride with someone, when you first enter the car, that player should ping you the radio station they are on, (very very low bandwidth, virtually none) and when they change in as well, so you listen to the drivers preference.

This would be cool, because you'd be hearing the same thing as the driver of the car.

Mp3 stations would not be synced.

  3. Not sure if you noticed that http://www.mta3.com and http://www.gta3mta.com were already taken.

I don't know much about registering a domain, but aren't those defualt redirects, and not actually 'sites', since no one has already registerd those domains?

I mean, there's like one search engine that keeps comming up over and over when you type gibberish into ie..

I got one on my first try:

    http://www.asdasd.com/

when you right click it, the page source is for the domains sponser..

    Ayway yeah my two cents.

  4. Haha, I remember when my parents wouldn't let me download stuff. They swore everyfile I ever got was a virus, thankfully they got over that. Btw, you could download it at school, and put it on a disk, or just download MTA, and would they even realize its something new?

  5. Visual studio.....hrm.

Yea, I teahcing myself through online toutorials. Worken good. I prefer a book instead.

A good one is Sams Teach Yourself Visual C++ in 21 Days. It has about 600 - 700 pages and is very detailed.

That's what I used to get myself started about 3 years ago, (mine was just C, not C++) but for starters, there isn't much difference until classes. Great book tho, and I actually got good a C coding when I used TIGCC to make TI-89 games.. anyway yeah I recomend that book too.

Btw, on the subject of modding, you can get tools from the web that allow you to scan the ram a game runs in, and perform tests. For example, you can seach for a value or a word and if it finds it in the games ram, it will give you a pointer... as long as your own c++ program can nab the same pointer, your code can move the player, by changing his x,y,z variables thru pointers... get it? If you don't know what a pointer is, get to learning c. Basically GTA3 has a whole bunch of varaibles (cars rotation positions, players rotatations, cars x-y-z locations, players locations, players weapons, etc...) mta just changes those variables by changing them in the games ram, and syncs them with their own net code. That sounds super-simple, but considering gta3 wasnt meant to be modded several problems can arise, including unstability. (Which I'm sure we've all... enjoyed; yay for mta4!)

Anyway I hope thats a more in-depth description of what you wanted to know as far as mod coding. AFTER you are profeccient at C++, try making your own games with OpenGL, learn here at: nehe.gamedev.net. But it would be pretty difficult for you, until you master C/C++.

  6. lets say u pause the game go to options and create a player skin or w/e and create your player there? would that still be a problem?

    I don't see why that isn't possible..

Couldnt something be set up like this:

    >player joins game with custom skin OR edits it in pause menu

    >new player's client pings the server with the gif

    >sever pings gif to all clients that have "download custom skins" checked in their mta copy

    >if a client chooses not to dl custom skins, a random skin, that hasn't been assigned to anyone in the game yet, could be given to the new player. Mta would then come standard with 31 misc skins, so if 31 unique players joined the game each skin would be used.

    >using simple parsing, the same local skin could be reused based on the players name. for example: the mta client randomly assigns one texture to all players with "[KFC]" in the begining of their name...

thus ppl concerned about bandwidth can opt to not dl textures, whilst others can.

Plus the server needs to be able to allow \ disallow custom skins.

  7. Since blue supports mods, why not just use blue in GTA:Liberty City?

(FYI: if you dont know, GTA:LC is a Vice City mod that puts the entire map of Liberty City in the VC Engine, very fun, with motocyles and helis. Plus all the original GTA3 cars, sounds, etc)

Thus you'll have both boats, helis, planes (that fly) and moto's all in "GTA3"

Thats what I'm waiting for, I want blue to use in GTA:LC

  8. acually its possible that GTA:SA can be online hwen it comes out for pc. True crime (crappy game.....not rly) was single player for ps2. bu when it came out to pc it was online and they had several diffrent weapons

Rockstar has a special contract with Sony, that states that R* CANNOT make SIGNIFIGANT changes to the PC version whilst porting to another platform. Netplay wouldnt be allowed.

Activision didn't have this contract when they made TC.

So, its basically a 0% chance.

  9. well, as the engine works, if you are too far from the van in your rc vehicle, you won't even see the enemy shooting you in your van, so the ability to get effected while driving your rc would have to be written by the mta team, or they could cheap out and make you invincible while driving an rc car.

I dont see why this can't happen:

-Top Fun Van blows: your plane blows, you die

-Top Fun Van gets jacked: your plane blows, camera focuses on your being pulled out

-You get shot thru top gun window: your plane blows, camera shows you dying

    Alternate IDEA:

Using DirectX (which mta DOES get the handle of..) make a new drawing instance, in the bottom right of the screen while flying, PIP (Picture In Picture) style. So you can watch your van, while in the air or car \ whatever. But this would be alot to hope for.

  10. One thot tho:

should the players name be drawn above the plane? or just the charectar in the van?

not above the plane would make it cool, because it would be an anonymous flyer, on the other hand, when they person dies, should it say "someguy died, explosion" or "gtatari killed someguy, rc"?

  11. woah, yeah, the top fun vans is a good idea.

when your jacked, the plane\heli\rc blows up and your returned just as your being pulled out

if two ppl get in the van, two planes should be issued.. OR passengers get the planes, and the driver drives the van! that would be awesome, a clan of 8, four vans four planes, you can move the radius of the plane, as the van drives, while the other player flys! parking a van in an alley would allow for suprise attacks..

  12. Is it a hacked \ cracked copy of gta3, or the real game? because its possible to have v1.1 hacked (i know since i used to have it before i got gta3 used)

and cracked gta3 isnt nessicarily compatible with mta

also make sure your gta3 is completly unmodded, mta should catch mods, but im not sure how well it can account for every thing

  13. Its not a case of stability, its a case of completeness. Remember this is a ground up rewrite not another bout of cramming more stuff into an already shaky core and fixing the errors caused by that.

I'd like to ask a question, If I may.

you say this is a groud-up rewrite..

and you say it will have all the features promised..

well what exactly have you nailed down? its not like its mission crital top-secret information being as its posted on the blue intro page (the features I mean)..

have you perfeted walking \ running?

    are bullets synced perfectly?

or is everything in peices and implementation is just starting to roll around?

if we can't know an accurate percentage, can we at least know what works - or just be left with a big mtab-blur?

  14. Nope its Shoreside-Vale only that is in the next version, I guess you get to choose island in the server config file :)

    ic.

too bad you can only play one island at once :(. hopefully in blue we can play on all 3 at the same time.

Why? I sometimes get mad because on Vice City, it's way too big. I think on all the MTA's you should only choose one island...

Imagine on VC, the middle island, that would be a lot of heated fighting there.

I think its about GTA, not about heated action. Action packed games are already made.. GTA online is.. well.. gta online not awalys about killing.

I personally love big maps, but it would be nice if the server could chose an Island, or a combo of them.

  15. GTA 3, no question

I love the map - its perfect, gta:lc is the only way I play in LC now a days tho (unless, of course, gta3mta)

I agree with the comment about the VC map being too flashy - i just can't identify with the Eighties, im to young to remember them clearly and I can identify with a modern big city feel

I also agree about the Radio, for example in GTA3 R* made fun of "Boys To Men" with a fictional group called "Boys To Girls", yet now in GTA:SA they play a real Boys To Men song... I liked the fake stuff better.. it gave the game a more real feel, because everything was consistant. Mixing real music with a fake game takes away from the realism IMO, because then it takes away from the fantasy... I digressed.

NOTE: to Keerfemag on Rammstein, Hell Yeah!

  16. heh that would be excellent, maybe making a so advanced mod that you could put your own car in your garage, disconnect,

and then coming back another day the car would still be standing there :D

sweet idea, and that would be possible.. but after a few days all the propetry on the map would be owned by registered users... there'd have to be a way to steal property otherwise all of it would be bought up right away
