New to MTA

I'm new to the whole MTA thing, and I have downloaded and installed it all correctly. I came across a problem and read the 'first time users' FAQ and it only goes up until the installation part. My problem lies once I have entered a game: when the character, or class selection bit comes up - I can use the chat, view scores, take screenshots and scrool around the classes, but I cannot press enter to select one of them.

How can I sort this out?

You must have edited the controls config for GTA, instead of enter - press the key that you use to enter a vehicle. If you don't know which one, goto the pause menu, then options, then Controls setup, then redefine controls.
