MySQL: if you wish to sync data between multiple servers and maybe show some of it on a website.

SQLite: if you just want to store a lot of data in a single server with low amount of read/write actions since it's locked by process

XML: Small amount of data you wish to store on your client's PC's or to read server side like settings or a list of positions, markers or similar.
