'LinKin Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Hello, I was reading about MySQL indexes. But I still feel like I don't understand it completely. I've created a table with two columns: SERIAL, NICKNAMES Now it asks me to add an index. It asks me to put a name for the index, the type of index, which column (SERIAL or NICKNAMES) and the size. Here's an image: http://s18.postimg.org/l8m0i0cmg/mysql.jpg .. I don't really understand what this is all about.. Could you please give me a hand? Thanks!
JR10 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Indexes are used to search rows with specific values much faster. Without going into more details, read here for more: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en ... dexes.html An index name is used so you can later manipulate the index, and for example, drop the index. As for the index type read here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7078 ... t-in-mysql
