Az_
What? I'm interested in seeing client-side mods. In particular, mods such as vehicle skins. Why? I have been developing vehicle skins on & off for a while, it initially started out for a server, but many people were interested in having the mods available for offline use. This means I have to make two *.txd files for every release, one for servers to use, and one which players can use offline. Another problem is that some servers do not allow people with modified game data to enter, so I have to have GTASA installed twice. I'd also like to use the skins at other servers. How? My suggestion is that, we have some sort of system which allows for mods that do not affect player/vehicle performance - such as vehicle skins. I believe such a system would be handy to many players. I do not play GTASA offline on my PC, so I wouldn't be too bothered that my mods aren't there offline. Who? I know I enjoy using non-performance enhancing mods in my GTASA, such as vehicle skins and texture modifications, as do many people I know. A lot of my friends in the MTA community also choose to use handling mods, some servers allow them, and some do not. So having such a system would be handy to them, if it could control the handling mods depending on server settings. For example, if I were to enter a server with handling mods, which does not allow them, MTA would automatically disable them, thus saving me from switching to my unmodified installation of GTASA. So what do you think? I think I have covered everything, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Az. Link to comment
JR10
You mean mods, for the server? When you join, you have the mods, when you leave, back to normal? We already have that, Engine Functions. https://wiki.multitheftauto.com/wiki/Cli ... _functions Link to comment
karlis
you can use vehicle skins in mta. Link to comment
Az_
I think you've both misunderstood. I know we have this already and that we can use vehicle skins. Client side means it's on the player's system. I'm talking about using mods independent of the servers. Lets say for example, I have a skin installed to my GTASA, however some servers do not allow modified game data. And some servers force their own skins/mods onto you. I'm struggling to explain this better. But I mean skins (or other mods), that only you can see. It'd be controlled from a mod menu within MTA. Thus allowing me to use my skin, on your server, without affecting other people. And being an "approved" mod, it'd elimate modified game files. I hope this has helped to break down the confusion. karlis
afaik modified skins doesnt change the data, but modified collision(that is usually included in a mod) indeed give unfair advantage in racing server. Link to comment
knash94
Az_ I'm sure mta only checks files within /data of your gta install, and Karlis it would be a dis-advantage to yourself not others to be honest as the mod will only be visible to the client. Also, I think there are some scripts about that allow you to add mods to a client resource manually and if the server has that resource it will change your model to that, but I don't think a lot of servers use it, I don't know. karlis
read it again modified collision(that is usually included in a mod) indeed give unfair advantage in racing server collision can make you slip trough a pole others would hit, make you not crash, block others in your screen, make unsync, etc, that's proven. knash94
True, didn't think of having it smaller to cheat like that, but mta doesn't check gta3.img, I may be wrong but thought it only checks data files? Link to comment
karlis
im not sure about that, but you may be correct. and besides the .dff also varies suspension strength w/o changing handling lines. Link to comment
