they are the same, you login with the name that displays when logged in on the forums. And unless someone disabled the option again a user can change his nickname in the user control panel.

They aren't the same. If given the rights, you can change your display name, but usually only admins can change the usernames, which are the names you log in with.

In the registration form there is only a spot for the username. I've seen other boards (generally Invision Power Board) with separate ones for user name (the one you use to login) and display name (the one that shows when you post), however.

GTFO, if you're told by Admin that they are the same - they fcking are the same. Or do you know our stuff better than us once again?

When you sign up it's usually the same, yes, but they can be changed by an admin via the user's account settings.

I've never heard of this username/display name separation in phpbb.

I might be wrong though, not much into it.

At least when I've changed a persons username from ACP it affected his display name too. I've never seen a field specifically for display name, so for me it'd only make sense if the display name was the username.

in phpbb the username and displayname are identical, always. Unless you install a modification.

But i think seperating the user- and displayname is a really bad idea, confusing for both the user and the admin.
