Crashes after connecting to server

Been a few years since I played MTA but decided to try it again today.

But I can't seem to get into a server or map editor without the client crashing. I can connect to the server, the download bar goes away and I see the "welcome" screen, but then it crashes. It's a fresh install of both GTA:SA and the latest MTA (no mods etc.) and it's been downgraded to v1.0. San Andreas single player seems to run fine. I'm running Windows XP.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have any suggestions? I tried SA-MP and that works fine, but still no luck with MTA.

hm unfortunately the only information i could find is this https://wiki.multitheftauto.com/wiki/Known_Issues ... any_server but i doubt this is the problem is there anything you can tell additionally? so it does in fact happen on every server? at the exact same time? right when the loading is finished?

Every server I've tried so far, yeah. The downloads finish, and it shows the welcome/motd/whatever it's called screen for a few seconds, I can see the chat box and all of the 'hud' but the rest of the screen stays black, and then it crashes.
