In sa-mp you have an object limit of 254. This means that you can only add 254 map objects in the server.

Does such a limit exist for MTA and if so, how big is it?

in mta you can place (nearly) unlimited objects (the total element limit is about 65000!), but only 255 can be streamed in at once, if you place more than 255 in a small area client players will maybe experience some objects disappearing during their movement.

So i could have like a stuntzone with 200-some objects here and then another over there.. with some distance, right?

Yes. You can have a lot of objects, it'll just shown the ones nearest to you, which generally is fine.
