There is a way to do it, but I'm not sure exactly how (but I if find the topic I'll post a link here). I think the reason they can't be installed together has to do with the registry on your machine iirc.

I really hope that in the following releases they can be installed simultaneously because it would actually get the players that prefer race more to get on DM once in a while (instead of having to reinstall on the other version back and forth). From what I've seen in the server browsers I think Race is still more populated than DM atm

do like this FIRST you install DM later RACE then just INSTALL dm again (just use the install, dont remove anything) then you make an shortcut of "multitheftauto.exe".. then just start it... (race will be like a mod...) if you install DM on example C:\program\mta\ INSTALL RACE THE SAME LOCATION (C:\program\mta\) it wont erase anything just add it self to the collection BUT REMBER TO INSTALL FIRST dm LATER race AND LATER dm AGAIN !
