Guest
After reading through a bunch of the posts regarding MTA:SA not progressing any further after the splash screen being shown, and working through the suggested solutions, I was about ready to give up. The solution I've found is as follows: 1) make sure everything else is right that others have suggested. Clean GTA:SA, V1.0, legal copy, no NOCD, no mods. 2) if that's all fine and you're still having troubles like I did, try #3 3) what fixed it for me was doing the "run as" trick to run something as admin. Even though my main account is the admin account on this machine this works for me. To "run as" you need to hold shift and right click on the Multi Theft Auto.exe icon and select "run as". Enter the admin username and password and login. If you are the only account on the machine, enter those details. I hope this helps a few people. I'm still at a loss as to why this actually works when there's no difference with only one account on the machine, maybe some techy types could fill us in on that. Thanks, Kaz. Link to comment
Ravenheart
Deleting gta_sa.set in X:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files and going in SP to set the settings works also. Link to comment

This didn't work for me, I meant that to be included in the "do everything else" step No other solution got me any closer to MTA working I'm afraid Link to comment
