Guest
Okay I'm just wondering about two things before I get round to trying MTA rc1... LAN speed: Currently my own machine has a 1gb network adapter... but my friend has a 100mb... If he upgraded to 1gb, would this help at all or would it be just as stable on 100mb..... 25fps Limit: I read about this in another thread, and totally understand the point to it etc, but I was wondering if there was any news on wether or not this will be / can be modified? Nothing "wrong" with 25fps as such, but a little higher would be nice.... Link to comment

MTA Team jhxp Posted January 24, 2006 MTA Team Share Posted January 24, 2006 I think that it won't change much about smoothness - should be already smooth on 100mbps =) As for frame limiter... not sure Link to comment
Si|ent
The 25fps isn't simply to prevent someone with a supercomputer from travelling at unfairly higher speeds, it is also tied in with packet timings etc. Link to comment
Guest
You will see absolutly no difference between a 1g network and a 100mbs network. For a start even though your adapter is 1g, its highly unlikly you would have a 1g connection to something else as you can not just use standard ethernet to achieve such speeds. I remember reading (in the blog I think) about bandwidth tests they did, these were extremly low. Meaning on any type of LAN (10 - 100 - 1000) you will not notice any changes. Link to comment
darkdreamingdan
100mbps will be very smooth, i dont think trying to make it faster will help because that's really very fast already Link to comment
Guest
Ferret- For general Windows Networking, there is most definatley a diference between giga-lan and 100mbs lan. You only have to try copying a large file over the connection to see the diference! 1gb file over 100mbs LAN (Direct Link Cable) = 2min 45 seconds 1gb file over 1Gbps LAN (Direct Link Cable) = 40 seconds Tried and tested my friend, 1gb definatley the way to go! As for gameing, well I assume the same rules apply (i.e if the server had to copy a map / texture to the client, it would copy quicker... ?) Link to comment

Guest
The 25fps isn't simply to prevent someone with a supercomputer from travelling at unfairly higher speeds, it is also tied in with packet timings etc. my game always runs 10x as fast as normall even with this fps limit or whatever it is lol, restarting it usually fixes it but having to restart just to be able to play is just plain annoying. I already have all the settings highest as possible........ Link to comment

Guest
Guess I had my gig network set up wrong then when I was mucking around. Yes large files you will notice a difference, maps how ever are far from large. Ping you would not notice anything (I assume this is what the original guy was on about as he mentioned stability). It was stated somewhere by the dev team that you could in theory use an old p2 (I think thier example was a p2) as a server since it required very little cpu time and a small amount of bandwidth per person. Numbers were given, for some reason 4k/sec peak comes into my head but that is prolly some something else. Link to comment
