I think francisuk22 didn't really understand the question. The TS already has a server. First of all, you need to decide which OS you are going with. Both OSes have their advances. 1. Linux I would personally advice Linux Debian. Since I started to use Debian, I haven't had any problems which I couldn't easily solve. Of course you do need some basic knowledge of Linux commands, because you sometimes need to solve problems which cannot be solved by the control panel. If you have installed Linux, you must select a control panel. Since I'm not here to advice my own products, I think you should use Webmin in combination with Usermin. In the webmin part you setup some custom commands and make those accessible under the Usermin part. Of course you can do this without Usermin, but if you have a seperate account for every server, it just works easier. Also your FTP server can be managed by Webmin, or you can always use SFTP (FTP over SSH). As a second option, you can use a control panel made by us. This panel is available for as little as 5 EUR each month and is able to support you in various ways. The control panel has easy 1-click server install. It currently supports MTA San Andreas, SAMP and Counter Strike 1.6. If you want more information about this panel, please contact me. 2. Windows Server 2008+ Windows Server is for the more common PC user the best choice. Windows Server still has the same layout as normal Windows desktop editions. You can just start a server etc. The advantage of using Windows Server instead of a normal desktop edition of Windows is that it also has support for easy installation of roles like IIS for serving the Web. You must also consider your internet speed. If you have a connection with an upload of just 1MBit, you can only server 1-2 players. A normal calculation would be that you need about 0.75-1MBit per player, depending on your resources. I hope you know a little bit more about hosting your own servers at the moment. If you want to start selling your servers, always use Linux, because it is free. You don't want your company to get in trouble just because you use illegal editions of Windows or because you spent too much money on Windows licenses.

Isn't buying a good dedicated server and sell VPS easier? No. This would mean we need to buy a server, maintain the server, fix bugs. Having special deals with 3rd party providers means that we can offer VPSes for the same low price as we would offer with having a dedicated server, without the hassle of maintaining virtualization platforms. This works for both your and our side, since you have a low-priced VPS with management options and we don't have the hassle and costs of hosting a dedicated server.

I did not understand this. This means you are going to buy VPS from 3rd parties and sell them or buy dedicated servers and sell VPS? We are going to buy VPSes from 3rd parties, which we offer managed and with control panel. Normally there isn't a real solution for consumers to use VPSes for gamehosting because there isn't really a control panel available.

We are going to do some changes at Gameservers4You.This will not affect our customers at all. We are currently moving our domains to a more solid provider and we are also changing web host. This will be done this weekend and it should not bring any downtime, since we are already running both sides and the DNS is setup at the new host. Mainly we will check on viruses etc. Currently our website is offline, but our CP is still accessible using http://cp.gameservers4you.net/. We will fix the website soon!

It is still your responsibility to ensure that this doesn't happen, and you really can't expect people to not upload copyrighted material on MTA, especially when it comes to race servers and music infridgement. You sell servers at a very low price, and your income is probably lower than what you use on paying your servers atm., so that means you have to take money out of your own pocket, how can you ensure that this doesn't happen again? To me it seems like you took the coward way out of this: And how can the customers be sure that this won't happen once again? And then you come back a few months later with a system that would take about 2 months to make with minimum manpower? Seems fishy to me. - The control panel is now on a dedicated server running on a 1Gbit connection, from a different provider. - Sure this is our responsibility, but we have to check once in some time. We haven't done that before and we will do it now, as stated in our new main topic, which you obviously forgot to quote. As can be seen in our ToS it isn't allowed to host illegal files and as stated before, we are going to focus us on this. - We have enough money in our company to at least hold on for 2 more months after the expiration date of the current servers. - It is just the way it is, I can't add anything. You won't believe my honesty, I can't do anything about it. - As I stated earlier. The information has been compromised due to that the system contained illegal files. Now regular backups are made to other servers. I must admit, we made some errors, and we aren't going to make the same ones again. - We come back with the same system we had before, I don't see the point of this part of your reply. The CP server has just gone online. We are planning to start our first server coming Friday.

We are very sorry, but we could not warn you guys. Our information has been compromised just in one second and then we received an e-mail about it. We did have problems before and that was fixed every time, but then suddenly they decided that we are hosting too much illegal data and we are responsible for it. We couldn't suspend the client for hosting illegal data, since the provider thought we were responsible. Also one of the servers that wasn't hosting any illegal data, our webserver, had been shutdown. We tried to get the e-mail addresses from the harddisk, but they already deleted all of our data. We are very sorry that it went this way, but we can't do anything about it. EDIT: Our Europe 2 server is still online and will be shutdown on 05/04/2012.

It's not one of your scripts, mine shuts down sometimes too. Imo, the service is great, but the servers sometimes let you down. We haven't heard this before and we will look into it. Seems like a strange error and probably something caused by the server files (maybe they crash or something). How long ago was the previous crash?
