help! first timer

OK, i got to the stage where i just downloaded mta 5, but i dont know what program to run it with.

Just double click the icon on the desktop to start MTA. You should know whether you have GTA3 or Vice City installed (or both), so it's a matter of clicking the "Servers" button and selecting Vice City or GTA3 from the dropdown box there.

Once you've found a server, click Connect and you will be asked to browse to your GTA3 / VC folder, depending on which server you selected. These will be located by default in your C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games folder.

The MTA manual that is located in the Start Menu should help.

but i double click on it any its set to windows media player somehow, i right click on it and select open with, i dont know what to choose

Erm... it's an exe file so it shouldn't require you to specify an application. Are you sure you downloaded the one from this page? http://www.mtavc.com/mta05/download.php

Sounds like you may have downloaded the MTA:SA preview clip at the top of the homepage by mistake.

It should be an exe file. If you downloaded the bittorrent, then you must open the file with Bittorrent. Otherwise you should be able to double click it, if you downloaded it from the one of the mirrors. Make sure the file that you downloaded is called MTAInstall05.exe you can get it here http://www.multitheftauto.com/mta05/dow ... t_download. If you downloaded the servers (which you dont really need unless your running a server) then make sure that you downloaded the one that fits your operating system.
