El DWORD tiene 32 bits es decir 2 ^ 32 te da un valor bastante elevado (Eso en el caso de ser unsigned) tambien puede ser de 64 bits que es unsigned long long que tiene 64 bits Es decir 2^16 Respecto al tema tiene información de las dimensiones aquí.
