orappa
You need to forward port 2003 (UDP). Link to comment
Posty
And to add on to that, usually you have to go to your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1, then itll ask for a user/pass. Usually the user name is nothing and the password is ADMIN. Then go to advanced (if you have a linksys) and then click on forwarding, or it might be on the front page. Not sure if it isn't a Linksys router though Link to comment

orappa
I think you've got the wrong dialog up. What you want is one which allows you to forward data arriving at the router on port 2003 to the IP of the machine that you're playing on. Although I also have a router, and I've never had to do that in order to play (although I would need to do that if I wanted to host). I think the problem you have is most likely due to a firewall. (Don't forget that some routers have built-in firewalls, as does Windows). If so, you'd need to allow MTA or port 2003 in your firewall's settings. Link to comment
Robpol86
Well i want to play mta vc but i am behind a router... he wants to PLAY, not HOST. to PLAY any game you don't have to forward ports. actually, you shouldnt. there is no need to and it wont do ANYTHING. if it DOES do something, your router blows, because mine (linksys/dlink/linux) dont do gay stuff like have adverse effects on game play. forwarding ports wont fix his ping timeout errors............. Trust
idd, forwarding won't help. I am also behind a router and I didn't have to change anythin in my router's settings, if you still keep timing out, try contacting the help-desk of your ISP, they're probably the only people who can help you. orappa
That's why I said the following, suggesting that it could be an active firewall: Although I also have a router, and I've never had to do that in order to play (although I would need to do that if I wanted to host).
