Polish letters in MySQL

Hi guys.

Today i have problem with polish letters like "ąźćż...". I mean i want to for ex. put into column value with polish letters (via phpMyAdmin) and read it on MTA Server. On MySQL i set character set on "utf8_unicode_ci" and when im using mysql_connect and then mysql_set_character_set (1st parametr set to "utf8_unicode_ci") still on polish letters i have "?". What should i do?

Here's code:

local mysql = mysql_connect("*****", "*****", "*****", "*****") 
mysql:set_character_set("utf8_unicode_ci")

Ok i repaired it. I can't use something like that:

mysql:... 

but i must use

mysql_set_character_set(mysql, ...) 

It only works on query result
