it's really hard to tell my gang apart from others, and i think customizable skins and bigger names / names on the map would really help with this.

customizable skins aren't really possible... they're too large to transfer to every client..., though with new game modes, perhaps telling gangs appart won't be a problem. Names on the map, again isn't really possible. Bigger names though might be, or perhaps with different colours.
