Single player starts instead of MTA

Whenever I try to start MTA:SA 1.3 on my friend's computer, it always seems to run single player, for some reason. I know this issue existed *somewhere in the past*, but it isn't in the FAQ anymore (and I have looked at quite a few historic versions of it).

It's a brand new Samsung laptop which definitely is to the minimum specs etc etc etc etc, but it probably isn't that. (don't have it that close to me)

Not sure if this is of any help, but I'm pretty sure that the problem arose from installing the latest nVidia drivers, atleast for me MTA stopped working just after. I've got a 540M on my laptop.
