First of all, I am new to the whole server thing - so please do not use any technical words that will knock me out.
So, recently I have set up a small server with all the scripting etc - and I could easily connect to it and play - however when I told my friend to come and join me to see if it works, he told me it keeps saying that:
It says something has timed out.
So I decided to have a look around the internet, and noticed I need to forward my ports. Which is easy, I have done it before for other games. So I searched through the internet - and since I didn't know my model I just decided to do it on my own. I went to the port forwarding section - and typed in all 3 ports required (So they can browse, join and download.)
However, when I went to the console and typed in "openports" this keeps coming up:
Port [portnumberhere] UDP is closed. Players can not browse!
Port [portnumberhere] UDP is closed. Players can not join!
Port [portnumberhere] TCP is closed. Players can not download!
I have allowed these ports through both, my firewall on my laptop and my Zoom router.
And still, it didn't work.
The fields I had to fill in to forward a port:
IP Adress: [______] Protocol [uDP, TCP, Both] and finally port range [____]-[_____] and then a comment box which I left blank.
I made sure everything was correct many, many times. Out of all IP adresses I tried, only one worked - so I used that one. And still, it keeps saying the same thing:
Port(blablabla)Players can not (whatever they can't do)!
Many websites suggested http://portforward.com/ which I tried, but I didn't know my router model so I had a look at all of them. And NONE of these router matched the page which it took me to - so I still don't know how to do it. The website it should take it to in tutorials is red page with an "Advanced Setup" tab. Where the page it took me to when I typed in my IP was blue and it didn't have that tab. I don't know if it's something to do with old firmware or something like that.
Is there any way I could have done something wrong? Which IP address do I type in? Or maybe there is something else?
