Possible to have a simple lan game with current or older MTA

Recommended Posts

Hi I was going to have a lan with a few friends soon and was interested in maybe playing MTA for either SA or VC. My issue is that so far I get the impression that you have to be on the internet to play. We're not sure if we are actually going to have an internet connection, so is there a just lan option? And If so what is the simplest way to go about creating a lan game? Thanks for the help.

As far as I remember, there is no such need.

You just host a server on one of the computers on the network, have it connect to it (by using localhost , or 127.0.0.1 as a hostname), then have other computers connect to him via its proper lan ip. You can find it by using an ipconfig command on the machine that hosts server (Start -> Run -> cmd , then type ipconfig in the command prompt).

Maybe there will be a small issue with MTAVC 0.5 client crashing due to lack of the internet connection, but this can be worked around by adding some parameter to its config file. See our FAQ for that, Crash on client startup section.

Aside from that, it should all work well.
