Guest
Hi, today I downloaded and installed Multi Theft Auto Client, and Multi Theft Auto Server. I use: GTA3 1.1 I got it so my brother and I could play over LAN. Anyway, after about an hour of trying to make a server, then realizing I needed the server downloaded, I finally got one set up. After another half hour of messing around, I managed to connect to it successfully . I started the game, and there I was, standing in Portland. So, I start up my brothers computer, connect to LAN, install GTA3 for him, patch it, install the client, etc. I start Multi Theft Auto client, type in my I.P address, and press connect. "Connected! Vice City Deathmatch" What?! I started a Portland Deathmatch game. So, just in case I mistakenly started a VC game, I go back, and remake the server. I try again. Same results. Obviously, he can't join if it's asking him to locate his Vice City exe. Whats the problem here? I would really appreciate some help. I don't know if it's relevant, but after I stopped trying for the night (it's 3am and I am working myself too hard, must sleep soon. ) THEN I installed the server patch. Is "Shows up as vice city" one of its bug fixes? heh. Just in case, I thought I'd note that. Tommorow I'll try some more, with the server patch, and see if I can get his computer to join. Thanks. Towncivilian
Make sure that it's set to a GTA3 gamemode in the configuration .conf Link to comment
Guest
Thanks. New problem. It was connecting yesterday (to vice city yes, but still connecting), and today, when I try to connect my brothers computer it times out. "Connecting....ConnecteDISCONNECTED - Server Timed out (delay =10 seconds) or something like that. I had this problem before, when joining myself, but it was fixed because I had put in the wrong I.P. I've looked up my IP and it's still the same... I can connect, near instantly (due to it being my own), but on his computer, now all it does is time out time and time again. Any ideas? Did you apply the server patch? Are you using your brother's computer's network IP or your internet IP? You must be using the network IP. Link to comment
Guest
I tried with and without the patch. I also tried using the network IP AND my IP. Exact same result. Getting kinda frustrated here. Link to comment
MTA Team jhxp Posted November 20, 2008 MTA Team Share Posted November 20, 2008 It could be a firewall issue, try disabling it on the machine where the server is located (you can also disable it on connecting clients machines to be sure). If it fixes it, maybe you'll need to unlock some ports. Also, make sure that the machine you're trying to connect to is running a server. Link to comment
