"grand theft auto cannot run on windows 95"

i get an error message "grand theft auto cannot run on windows 95" when ever i start up MTA but i know that i have windows XP is there anyone who has had this problem and has found a solution or knows how to fix this straight up? help appreciated

Check your game compatibility mode under properties, right click GTA VC/SA logo. Sometimes it can be mistaken, as well for the MTA logo.

I had the same problem once, cleared it by doing what I just typed.
