Information on Rockstar Games.

Since people ask me, and I wounder myself, I thought I should make a topic that can tell people about the ties between Rockstar Games and GTA.

So here's how it goes.

Take 2 Interactive owns Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games is split up into different studios, the most well known studio is Rockstar North.

Here's alittle info on Rockstar North:

DMA Design (first called "Direct Mind Access", later called "Doesn't Mean Anything") was bought by Gremlin Interactive. Then later it was completely bought by Rockstar Games, and DMA was renamed to Rockstar North.

Here's alittle info on GTA:

When the first GTA was made, it was developed by DMA design, and released under the BMG Interactive label. (those are the guys who published the first GTA). (BMG Interactive is what IGN games calls a "...publishing branch for Bertelsmann's German BMG multimedia publishing house.") GTA2 was made by DMA Design and Tarantula Studios (Tarantula Studios was later bought out by Rockstar Games and renamed to Rockstar Lincoln).

Even though DMA was bought by Rockstar, the dev team probably consists of the same people.
