This is a possible way to get around the problems we have enabling the 'normal drivebye' currently, so leaving normal driveby for everything else isnt really an option yet :) If that worked we'd not be looking into alternatives.

even if you get drivebys working, the glue thing would be way cool for helis and trucks (vehicles that would look natural to stand on). i imagine getting driveby as a driver and driveby as a passenger working is 2 completely different monster tasks.

Turret with limited ammo (as many m60 rounds as the player has) would be best for helis. And boats when the time comes.

BTW have you guys ever looked into the police mav's pea-shooter-of-a-chaingun. Could that model be made drivable/flyable WITH the weap? In SP, does its script make the pilot the shooter (think there is a pilot involved as you can snipe him off), or is it something like the heli itself's shooting randomly close to you like the cops? Also what are that weap's stats? Same as an m60 with a decreased ROF?

The police maverick, and the one that chases you, are 2 different models, the one with the gun, has it hardcoded, not scripted. The one with the gun, isn't human flyable, and even if it was, you would have the same issues syncing the weapon from it, as the Hunter and Seasparrow.

There is an opcode, i forget which one exactly at the moment, that will add the Hunters machine gun, to any vehicle you want, but you'll still have the weapon syncing issue.
